Keeping life simple, even when it’s not, became a passion for formerly messy kid-turned-organizational guru, Janet Nusbaum. Taking the steps to an organized life began for Janet when she launched her first entrepreneurial venture, Celebrations and Reunions, an event planning business, in 1985.  Specializing in organizing High School reunions, Janet learned how to organize, balance and juggle, not only business, but life as well, and became aware of how critically important good organizational skills (and an organized work and home environment were to

Organizing Consultant / Professional Organizer, Janet Nusbaum, AKA The Organizing Genie and owner of Simplified Spaces in Carmel, Indiana.

Janet is also the author of a family chore system titled, Mom, Can I Help Around the House?

success and happiness. Janet launched Simplified Spaces in 2003 to begin offering small businesses, entrepreneurs and personal clients solutions for a more organized life. Through her hands-on organizing sessions with clients, presentations, classes and writing, it is Janet’s passion to share her epiphany about the life changing benefits of getting organized, and to inspire, encourage and give hope to others who struggle with clutter and chaos in their home, home office or place of business. Janet believes that with the right systems and habits in place, everyone can regain control of their spaces and lives. "When your space is in order, you have room, clarity and freedom to pursue your dreams.”

As the mother of two adopted daughters from Russia, Janet found a new passion to integrate into her organizational business: helping kids learn organizational skills.  Her daughters had to be taught how to become functional members of a family, with responsibilities and daily life skills which they had never before been exposed to, and providing this education for her own children launched Janet into the realm of guiding kids to be good helpers.  With a new book aimed at helping children do chores with less fuss, Mom, Can I Help Around the House? A Step-by-step Guide for Teaching Your Children Life-long Skills for Pitching in and Picking up, Janet is teaching younger generations the importance of simplified living, organization and responsibility, through the lessons she not only learned as a parent, but those taught by childhood development experts as well.

Another epiphany came in 2006 as Janet’s Grandmother was faced with having to leave her home of 20 years to relocate to an assisted living center. Not only was it an emotional time, but Janet was left to face the accumulation of things one gathers over a lifetime of simply living.  Organizing and dispersing her Grandmother’s estate made Janet aware that there had to be a better way to emotionally and physically deal with transitioning and reorganizing when faced with a life change, or the need for a simpler existence. To better assist Senior Citizens and Baby Boomers with transitional life changes, Janet became a specialist and member of the National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM), in addition to her National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) membership since 2005. One of the services she now offers her clients is to find homes for their discards, and to that end she launched an eBay store to assist her clients in that effort.
